New Portraits

Oil Painting of a Beautiful Girl with a Crown of Flowers

  • July 1, 2015

My Newest Oil Painting

This portrait is one of my latest works, finished in June of 2015. Based on a photograph, painted with oil on a finely textured canvas, measuring 16 x 20 inches. Also I have included various detailed pictures of the portrait from start to finish.

The initial sketch was done with a soft graphite pencil which was later painted over with a highly diluted almost transparent brown oil. It took me approximately 2 hours as it is very important to have the right proportions of the face and torso with respect to the depth and size of the canvas, With that first step in mind I prepared to continue the oil painting. I began by painting a layer of color to the face, neck and arms while shortly after painting a tone of colors to the background in order to continue with the hair and crown of flowers. After I applied to the face a second coat to match the rest of the oil painting. Ultimately I concentrated on the details such as eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows. Also the mouth, teeth and her dress.

Overall I finished the oil painting in about 28 hours divided into four days. The amount of time to complete a painting depends on the technique used. Example of different techniques: pastel, acrylic, charcoal or graphite. I am always thinking of doing the best possible job while implementing all of my knowledge and dedication so that the customer is happy and satisfied with the finished painting. A portrait can be painted several different ways, it can be done quickly with very little defined details or slowly with much more attention to the details.

It all comes down to the artist’s judgement according to their style and technique. The true importance of a portrait painting is that the work is a faithful representation of the person being painted.

I am very grateful to all those who take the time to look at my website and give me your feedback. Hope you liked my newest oil painting and a heartfelt thanks to all for your support!
